Seasoned Coach, Workplace Facilitator
and Believer in People
I am a passionate Human Resources Consultant and Career Coach (not a formal therapist with a couch). This gives me an objective, professional, fresh viewpoint to help clients unveil their career aspirations and work through challenges.
For me, nothing is more rewarding than connecting people to meaningful work and the workplaces they will thrive in. I also love supporting good workplaces as they transition into great ones. Building on my vibrant and diverse background in recreation and youth leadership development, human resources, and career development, I bring high-level energy, a wide range of experience, and laser focus to every workday. I am dedicated to helping people pursue their dreams, to fostering purposeful connections within teams, and to linking organizations with the best candidates for their positions.
After completing my Bachelor of Arts at the University of Victoria, I went on to train as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coaching Federation. I attained two additional designations: Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) and Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP). I have been a coach, recruiter, and facilitator for over 50 different local and international organizations. I have spent more than 12 years as a Human Resource and Program Management generalist with experience in recruitment and selection, terminations, return to work, policy development, and performance management.
I am an active volunteer in my community and enjoy participating in a number of charities. I love running special events such as Soul Sessions and facilitating the mentoring portfolio for the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHRBC). In my free time you will find me on a Hornby Island beach or somewhere outside with my family.

Passionate Human Resources Professional
I believe in building stronger communities by bringing people together.
My work in Human Resources has followed naturally from that belief. Working in this field is all about building stronger communities through our work, building authentic connections, and clearly defining the rules of engagement. I love finding creative solutions to complex problems and building vibrant workplaces through structure, culture and training tools and resources that serve both leaders and their teams.
My personal path to HR was a creative one. A natural helper, I have always loved working with people and was drawn to focus on HR after my diverse experiences working in municipal government, emergency services, recreation and non-profit. My former roles led me to my now-passion of supporting leaders and organizations in developing exceptional people practices and reimagining what work can look like.
Along with several years of direct management and HR experience, I also hold a post-degree diploma in human resource management and leadership, an undergraduate degree in psychology with a focus in human motivation, and a certificate in community leadership development.

Recruitment Specialist
I have always been a lover of people and want to learn about what makes them tick and how best to support everyone I interact with.
I studied psychology and Human Resources in university and have always been drawn to the "people" side of every job I have had, both internationally and in Canada. My relocation to Vancouver Island gave me an opportunity to find a job (and company) that I loved, and Reimagine Work was the result of everything falling into place.
HR has always had a piece of my heart, especially as an empathic person. Whether it is ensuring that employees are working in safe environments or assisting someone in finding their dream role, I have always found this work to be a satisfying and grounding experience. I believe that every person has a unique and important story to tell in their lives and that we are all just trying to do our best with the resources and tools we have.
Although they are constantly shifting, my three favourite things are living on this beautiful, awe-inspiring island; watching a sunrise or sunset on top of a mountain I just summited; and savouring that first bite of homemade popcorn with truffle oil and truffle salt.

Meticulous HR Administrator & Recruitment Advisor
I passionately believe in"leaving it better than you found it.” This guides my work and approach to each day.
After growing up in the Prairies, I began working in the live music production industry and relocated to Vancouver to join Live Nation in a Production Management role. Specializing in operations and logistics, I supported some of the largest event productions in Canada and organized over 100 events annually.
In 2019, my focus shifted towards internal business development, where I found my true passion. Now calling Vancouver Island home, I studied at both UVIC and Royal Roads focusing on HR Management and Employment Law.
These days I oversee Reimagine Work’s internal operations and work with our clients on recruitment and employee retention. I see recruitment as an opportunity for strategic development within an organization and to provide amazing opportunities for employees and help connect people with a position that inspires and challenges them. Nothing is more satisfying than finding the perfect candidate for the perfect role!
When I’m not deep in a spreadsheet or supporting our Reimagine clients, I can be found exploring Vancouver Island’s mesmerizing beaches and mountain tops with my family and dog, Lemon.
ALANA MARKS | she/her
Collaborative HR Advisor & Recruitment Specialist
HR is my favourite place to sit in an organization, it’s where the magic happens. My job is to live, breathe and support people every single day and I feel privileged to do it.
As a contractor with Reimagine Work, I consistently draw on my 10-plus years of experience in Human Resources. Prior to joining Reimagine, I supported teams in a variety of sectors, including government, construction, manufacturing, health care, fintech, and renewable energy, with significant experience building and scaling teams sustainably through periods of rapid growth.
Armed with a balanced and creative approach to human resources, I am well versed in designing people-focused strategies based on positive work culture norms, employee engagement, and team development that ensure all employees feel supported to do their best work.
I hold my Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, am a licensed paramedic, and graduated from the University of Victoria with focused studies in Organizational Psychology and Ethics.
My greatest reward is helping people and teams reach their full potential, and collaborative practice is my foundation and I lean into that philosophy often to promote a positive and supportive environment.
I contribute my five early years living aboard in Saudi Arabia as the onset of my passion for travel. I spent my early adulthood traveling across Canada sailing and coaching sailing. When I am not hiking, cycling, or perfecting my downward dog, I love to visit old bookstores and tend to my ever-growing garden.

Recruiter and Operations Specialist
My road to Reimagine Work is a winding one…
After several years in the financial sector and an active career in real estate, I came in to help a friend and colleague with admin support on a massive recruitment. And then I helped with another one, and then another one. Over the years and through the roles I’ve had, I have developed excellent administrative and operational skills. My toolbox is a varied one, but it’s a robust one, ready to solve any recruitment, real estate or operational conundrum.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree with a double major in English Literature and Creative Writing from UVic. Originally hailing from Calgary, AB, I moved back to Victoria in 2014 after a particularly nasty winter, wondering if there was more to life than shovelling my sidewalk four times a day.
As for the rest of my world, I love enjoying a good coffee or cheeseburger, talking to every dog I meet, wandering my favourite bookstores, roaming the open roads on a good road trip, arguing with my cat Steve, and cheering on my often-trying Calgary Flames.

I believe in creating fulfilling and meaningful work environments that allow people to reach their highest potential.
I am passionate about developing positive, inclusive, and effective work environments where people can personally and professionally flourish. I find it rewarding to support organizations in creating ethical and engaging workplaces where employees feel connected, inspired, and empowered.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Law, Societies, and Justice from the University of Washington in 2019. Shortly thereafter, I moved to beautiful Vancouver Island. While in the workforce, I was exposed to HR-related duties and felt a career in HR would best incorporate my studies and love for working with people. So, in 2021 I decided to go back to school to gain a more HR-focused education. I am currently at Camosun College finishing my Post-Degree Diploma in Human Resources Management and Leadership.
I enjoy hiking, running, travelling, and exploring this beautiful island that I am privileged to call home.

I love the expression, “Do what you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life.”
What I love more is, in HR, I get to help people love what they do and find a sense of belonging in their workplaces. Positive work cultures and helping to manage and oversee them get me jazzed up.
My background is primarily in Recreation and managing large teams of dynamic individuals. I love working with teams and building team culture and employee engagement. It’s that love that drew me into pursuing my Master’s degree and learning to better understand communication and relationships between co-workers and team members. Whether an organization is a service or product-based organization, people are always going to be what makes the organization succeed, and I love being a part of that people and culture team.
I have a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management, a Master of Arts degree in Professional Communication, and my CPHR designation.
I grew up in Montreal, but Victoria will always be home for me. I love how I can drive 10 minutes from home and be completely immersed and surrounded by nature on any given day. I love spending time with my family, my puppy Enzo, travelling, cooking, and trying new foods. (Or really, anything food and/or eating related!)
